When should I book you to cater my event? Always call or email us to see if we are available! Since we only commit to one full-service wedding per day, many of the most popular dates are booked more than 6 months out.
What is full-service catering? For us, full-service catering means that our event manager as well as service staff will typically be on-site 1 ½ hours prior to the arrival of your guests, and be there until the end of your event. We don’t ever leave before you do. We believe our job entails so much more than just serving food, and we will help you with your event planning and setup - from helping make your linen and china selections, to tent and dance floor sizing,
How does we get started? Typically the first step in our catering process is a meeting, either in person or over the phone. Based on that conversation, we will prepare a full-service catering proposal. Your proposal will typically include customized menu pricing, staffing, as well as a quote for any rentals or other equipment/items specific to your event.
How do I reserve and pay for your services? In order to commit to your date, we require a $500 non-refundable date deposit. Once we have finalized your menu, we will write a contract. At that time, if your event is more than six months away, 25% deposit of your estimated catering total is due. A second 25% deposit is due six months prior to your event. If you event is less than six months away, we require a 50% deposit with your contract. Your balance is due along with the final guest count, 8 days prior to your event.
Do you have a minimum? Yes, and our minimums vary depending on the time of year and style of service. Our Saturday food and beverage minimum in May, June, September, and October is $5,000. Please contact us to receive more detailed information regarding specific minimums for your event.
Can we have a private tasting? Yes, however we are only able to accommodate private tastings for clients who have received a written proposal and paid their date deposit. Tastings are scheduled around our event schedule, and typically occur on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1 pm. For your tasting, typically we will prepare your main course and any passed appetizers, however you may select up to six food items to try, two of which can be entrees, and the other four may be any combination of an appetizer, side, or salad.
Do you provide wedding cakes/cutting? Type A Catering does not provide traditional weddings cakes, however we have several bakers we love to recommend. We do provide complimentary cake cutting. If you are interested in something different, we do offer a list of what we consider kitchen desserts that we would be happy to provide.
How far do you travel? Due to the nature of food service, we travel within a 45 mile radius of our Nicholasville catering kitchen. This helps us to ensure the freshness and quality of our product. Included in this radius are Lexington, Richmond, Georgetown, Danville, Frankfort, and Berea. Click here to see a list of the venues we most frequently work.
Do you have menus for dietary restrictions or vegetarians? Yes! We will work with you to develop a menu that is mindful of any dietary restrictions that you or your guests may possess. However, we cannot claim that our food is free from all allergic contaminants potentially in our kitchen, since we do cook with wheat, soy, dairy, eggs, and nuts. We are also happy to offer a seasonal vegetarian plate should you require one. Please note that the number of vegetarian plates must be provided with the final guest count.
What about alcohol? Type A Catering is licensed and insured to serve at any “wet” location in the state, and all our bartenders are STAR-certified. Should your venue be located in a “dry” area, we are happy to provide bartenders and mixers, but are unable to provide any alcohol for your event. In the event that you are wanting to provide alcohol for your event in a “wet” area, your venue must allow you to supply it, as we will not serve alcohol you provide under our liquor license.
For all events with alcoholic beverage service, we require that bar service ends 30 minutes prior to the end of the event. And while we are happy to help your guest have a good time, we do not allow our bartenders to pour doubles or shots.
What about rentals? Type A Catering works with many of the area’s rental companies to provide all the pieces to make your event successful. Your event proposal will include an estimate as to the rentals and any equipment that your event may require. Please keep in mind, that your rental needs may vary depending of the facilities provided by your event venue.
Can I cancel my event? For Cancellation up to ten (10) days before the event date, any deposit made or required payments due are nonrefundable. Nine (9) days or less from the contracted event date, we reserve the right to charge the entire estimated total balance of your event. If you choose to cancel your event within the nine day period, you may make arrangements at that time to plan to pick up your food on to-go platters or to have us donate it to the Hope Center.
What are the taxes and fees? We are required to collect 6% sales tax on all food, beverage, disposables, and rentals we provide for your event. Also included in your event proposal is an initial staffing estimate based on 5 hours of service. The service staff on your final invoice many be higher because it will include any additional staff time your event requires. Gratuities are not included or required for our service staff. We do pay our staff a comparable industry standard hourly wage for their work. If you would like to tip the service staff, you may do so at the event at your sole discretion. We do require a gratuity be paid to your bar staff, however it is your choice as to whether that gratuity is a tip jar, or 10% of the final bar bill. If you are supply your own alcohol, we require that you allow our bartenders a tip jar.
What about leftovers? We are happy to make a to-go box for the Bride and Groom if they should so desire. However, our contract requires that you allow us to make any decisions regarding any leftover food, as food safety guidelines dictate those decisions. Whenever possible, we try and donate leftovers to the Salvation Army or the Hope Center.
